Tony Blackmore

A desire to travel and experience the most out of life is what motivates me. Hi! My name is Tony Blackmore. I was born and raised in Halifax and graduated from Dalhousie University with a BA (Honors) in English Literature in 1991. After that, I earned a certificate in broadcast journalism and spent five years involved with community radio. I went to South Korea in August 1997 to experience the culture and stayed until 2002, thriving through the "IMF Era." I lived in Kangnam-gu in Seoul and worked mostly in Apkujudong and Kangnam Station. I returned to Halifax for further ESL/EFL teacher training and then went to Japan in February 2003 where I was a branch supervisor and teacher trainer for the largest language school chain in the country. I lived in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa-ken and worked mainly in Shimo-Kitazawa and around Setagaya Ward in Tokyo. I returned to Halifax in December 2007. In Korea, I have hiked every inch of the Pukhansan Mountains near Seoul, went swimming in Kangwon-do, saw the Chronos Quartet in Yeoksam-dong, attended the Pusan Film Festival and developed a taste for spicy food. In Japan I liked to eat soba in Kamakura, spend my summers in Enoshima and visit Ueno for the cherry blossoms, Yokohama for the jazz, Ebisu for the dining, Shibuya for the crowds and Shinjuku for the cone and rods overdose. I like the poetry of Gary Snyder, the novels of Yukio Mishima and the avant-jazz of Satoko Nakamura, and look forward to trying something new everyday.
