Student Services

We believe that individual attention and a comfortable learning environment are essential for academic progress. We want this to show in every aspect of our students' time at East Coast School of Languages.

Director of Student Services

The objective of the Director of Student Services is to help students adapt to a new culture and to provide a total learning experience both in and out of school. Our Director of Student Services:

assists with level changes, concerns & health insurance
coordinates homestay program
provides students with information and materials regarding travel & education in Canada
helps students with services or products in the city
provides support in times of need

Personal Coordinator Counselling

ECSL has developed a student-counselling program to help students with any difficulties they may have in their daily lives, both in and out of school.
Each student is assigned a Personal Coordinator.
Regular meetings are scheduled by the coordinator.
Students can arrange additional meetings whenever necessary.

Social Program

ECSL offers students weekly social activities facilitated by our Social Activities Coordinator. Social activities help students practice their English, see new places in Nova Scotia, interact with native speakers and develop friendships with other students.

Bank Account Set-Up

Making life easier for students is our priority. ECSL knows that students have many expenses to pay when first arriving, so we are now able to offer a Bank Account Set-Up on the second day of classes. Our new Pre-Arrival Deposit Set-Up allows parents or students to send money to a new account before the student arrives in Halifax to study.

To get this started, ECSL needs:

to receive the student's name and Passport Number.
Within 24 business hours, ECSL will send the new account number and complete banking information with all information needed to successfully wire funds to the new account.
Students must bring their passports to ECSL on the second day of classes at 3:30 pm to complete this easy and convenient bank account set up.
After a brief presentation at the school, a CIBC bank representative will accompany students to the bank to choose their PIN codes and receive their debit cards.
Cheques can also be ordered at this time. Please inform our Registrar,Krista Neil, in advance if you require this service.

Bus Passes & ID Cards

ID cards are available to students for $10.00.
If you would like an ID card, please provide a passport size photo to Front Desk Staff on the first day.
The ID card will be prepared and given to you by Wednesday.
